Scope:

The fast development of electronics based on organic semiconductors asks for large interactions between different countries, knowledge and experiences. The “Action Plan in Science, Technology and Innovation” signed in 2005 by Brazil and UK has precisely the objective of evaluating the co-operation possibilities between the two countries in priority areas. Nanotechnology applied to organic electronics is one of them.
Every major country has its own metrology institute to support companies in increasing their productivity and the quality of their goods and services. Because of that, and because it is already involved with advanced materials metrology in its own Center of Organic Devices (CeDO), Inmetro offered its infrastructure to organise the first Brazil-UK workshop on organic semiconductors. Scientific and industrial Metrology can provide tools for technological growth and innovation, by fostering competitiveness and creating a favourable environment for scientific and industrial development.

Objective:
To open a dialog among the Brazilian and UK scientists, companies and investors interested on organic semiconductor science and technology, focused on the important issues for technological growth and innovation. This exchange should help the Brazilian community to find and solve the important problems for speeding the technological revolution based on organic semiconductors.

Structure of the Meeting:
This first workshop is being organised following the agreements between Brazil and UK signed in the Brazil-Day event, held in London in 2006, and organised by the Royal Society on behalf of the UK Office of Science and Technology and by the Brazil Ministry of Science and Technology. The workshop is an opportunity for UK and Brazilian scientists to share research, and explore future collaborations and further existing links. The program will be composed by conference talks and round tables for the discussion of the important questions about organic semiconductors and technology.
